Hello all! After Able Tasman we traveled on to Punakaiki (pronounced poonakaky). It was a bit of a rainy day but that didn't stop us from having fun.
Our first stop on the road was a bit of a walk to see some seals and just a pretty ocean. It looked like an angry ocean to us though because of the weather. I carried Ted, our buses teddy bear, the entire hike and let me tell you he is pretty heavy!
The second stop we took was to see the Punakaiki Rocks. It means pancake rocks because they all look like a stack of pancakes! There are also blow holes where the water splashes up into a hole. They sound a little bit odd but since the waves were so strong we saw some really good shoots of water spraying up.
Here is a little cave that the water has carved out. Scientists don't know yet how these stacks and blow holes have formed!
Since it was raining and the hostel we were staying in was in the bush there wasn't much to do...Except enjoy some really intense games and good food!
Our family made a fantastic shepards pie (Marissa and I took a picture of each other taking a picture of our yummy dinner). Then after dinner we played random board games and made a lot of fun twists on them! It was a great rainy, relaxing evening.
Hope I'm updating you all fast enough haha. My plan is to make sure I'm caught up by the 10th of Nov since that is when I leave New Zealand!
Love and miss you all,
Michele
