Hi everyone! I thought it would be fun to get out of the city one day and see the Great Ocean Road. Apparently, it was the top scenic drive in the world at one point and I could see why. Katherine came as well and we took a bus tour just for the day.
There were some beautiful beaches with tons of tourists on them (if I showed you a picture of the other direction you would understand).
This is the start of the Great Ocean Road! I believe the drive is over 200 km, we didn't do the entire thing but got to see a lot of it.
Most of the drive was just like this- right on the edge of the cliff. A lot of the time they had just carved out the road from the rock, pretty scary. We were in a double decker bus...I wouldn't want to be the driver!
Along part of the drive there are these rocks I guess you could call them called the 12 apostles. They were part of the mainland and the waves have crashed so hard against the cliff that part will wear away then eventually isolate these "apostles". The water was the most amazing blue, I could have stood there all day it was so beautiful.
Here are a few of the 12 apostles. The smaller ones are older because the waves have crashed and broken them down more.
Does this picture even need a description, it's so perfect.
You can see the different layers of earth!
This was one of my favorite things I did in Australia since I got to see more than just a city, I would recommend it to everyone. At our lunch stop the driver recommended trying some shark and chips. So of course I had to! It's really meaty and good, trying different food is such a good thing you find things you wish you could eat more often!
Love,
Michele
